By Bob Nickas
As someone who is particularly interested in looking at and creating abstract works, this book intrigued me after a quick glance through the pages. Divided into sections based on the visual elements of painting and drawing, Painting Abstraction investigates these subjects by analyzing the work of contemporary abstract painters. Not only does the author, Bob Nickas, make it compelling to be more conscious of these formal decisions while creating, but he also presents the reader with a database of contemporary painters who, in unique ways, demonstrate these elements. Whether it is a quick flip through or sitting down to read about an artist or two, this book is very handy for a visual artist.
