The Philadelphia International Art Exhibitions Program organizes and presents exhibitions and seeks to humanize the airport environment.  It provides visibility for Philadelphia’s unique cultural life and enhances and enriches the experience of the traveling public.  The Exhibitions Program provides millions of visitors from a global community access to a wide variety of art forms including fine arts, crafts, design and photography by artists from the Philadelphia area.

TSV is a blog dedicated to presenting the work of a variety of emerging and professional visual artists  from within the artist’s studio.  Each entry consists of a dialogue between writer and artist, as well as images and video of the artist’s space and work.  Seeing other artists’ workspaces can unveil a new context for the particular artist’s work; and seeing what works for others can also provide you with a new perspective on your own practice and workspace.

TSV‘s most recent visit was with Grechen Schermerhorn, a printmaker and hand papermaker as well as the Artistic Director at the Pyramid Atlantic Art Center in Silver Spring, Maryland.

With a BA in Humanities from the University of Texas at Austin and an MFA in Ceramics from the University of the Arts, Alexander has had an ever-changing career path. She has worked as a webmaster and managed large-scale web application development. She has taught both technology and art in the US and Mexico. She also writes art reviews, leads tours and creates sculpture. “I think the ability to change careers and remake one’s life is one of the greatest opportunities of our time,” she said.

It’s the Holiday Season and time for the bi-annual Punk Rock Flea Market by R5 Productions.

The last event, held in the summer, had over 3500 visitors and 250+ tables of old records, clothes, art, music, food, junk, bicycles, stereo equipment, instruments, automobiles, tools, posters, furniture, computers, skateboards and lots of other stuff.   Do not let the “name of the event” lead you to believe that it’s just punk records/clothes … this is a full-on flea market with everything from furniture to handmade apparel – plus vegan treats, information from various non-profit groups, book stores, artists selling their work and whatever else can fit onto the floor at this brand new location. Proceeds go to R5 productions, which works to ensure that ‘all-ages’ shows remain a reality at various venues throughout Philadelphia.

Introduce your work to the world via this competition for creativity in illustration: the Communication Arts Illustration Competition. Any Illustration first printed or produced within the last twelve months prior to the deadline is eligible. Selected by a nationally representative jury of distinguished designers, art directors and illustrators, the winning entries will be distributed worldwide in the Communication Arts Illustration Annual and on commarts.com, bringing exposure to the creators of the winning work.
